Cheese and butter is piling up in the United States.

The US currently has 1.148 billion pounds of cheese in stock.  Despite stocks levels being slightly eroded during the month of June there is still 5% more cheese in stock than there was a year ago.

During the first 5 months of 2013 cheese production in the US was up 1.8% year-on-year.  The growth in cheese stocks has occurred due to both the increase in production and a slow down in domestic demand.  Cheese exports out of the US were up 5% across the first 5 months of this year, but exports only account for a very small proportion of cheese demand with the vast majority of the cheese produced in the US being consumed by their domestic market.

Over the past year butter stocks have built up and now there is 33% more product in cold storage than there was a year ago. Butter stocks at the end of June 2013 totalled 324 million pounds.
