New Zealand has managed to grow its market share even further accounting for 97.5% of all WMP imported this year. But while demand for WMP has been high imports of skim milk powder (SMP) have dropped away falling by 26% this year to date. New Zealand suppliers appear to be the least impacted by the decrease in demand for SMP as they have grown their market share despite volumes falling. New Zealand has supplied 85% of China’s SMP this year versus 70% at the same time last year. Demand for whey products is much more stable having fallen by just 1% from last season. The US and Europe dominate the supply of whey products to China.
