A former employee of Rural Livestock Ltd has pleaded guilty to charges brought by the Serious Fraud Office.

John Francis Williams was originally going to defend the charges in the Dunedin High Court this week but changed his plea late last week.

SFO chief executive Julie Read confirmed on Friday that Williams has changed his plea to guilty.

“We expect sentencing to take place on December 3,” Read said.

The SFO investigation was launched after a complaint from Rural Livestock Ltd alleging Williams deceived the stock and station company and his clients.

Williams was employed by Rural Livestock as a livestock agent from June 2008 to May 2016.

An earlier version of this story stated Williams had pleaded guilty to 17 charges totalling $2m, we understand this is not the case and apologise for the error and any harm this has caused.
