India enters global dairy markets

Milk powder sourced from India has had an explosive entry into the global markets.

During the first quarter of this year India supplied nearly 35,000 tonnes of skim milk powder (SMP) into nearby markets. This compares to just 105 tonnes during the first quarter of 2012. The volumes being exported from India may be relatively small compared with New Zealand's 120,000 tonnes but they did export a tad more SMP than Australia did during the same time period. This puts India 4th in terms of export volumes behind NZ, the United States (US), and the European Union (EU).
