Market continues to strengthen

The Christchurch sale on October 25 saw the market continuing to strengthen, with prices firm for most styles of wool on the back of renewed Chinese interest.

PGG Wrightson South Island sales manager Dave Burridge said the crossbred full length and second shear fleece wool was 2-3% dearer compared to the previous Christchurch sale on October 11.

In general hogget wools were 2-7% dearer, with the longer ones most affected, he said.

Crossbred oddments were 3-5% dearer and mid micron wool continued to sell well, in line with the stronger Australian market.

The passed and withdrawn rate for the sale was 6% and the next Christchurch sale is due November 8.
