A good yarding of prime sheep was on offer at Balclutha last Wednesday, PGG Wrightson agent Russell Moloney reported. All sold to increased demand with prime ewes on buyers’ shopping lists.

Light to medium prime ewes traded at $120-$160. Hoggets saw an average $10 improvement on last sale to $120-$170.

Quality 2-year cattle sold to good demand, with Hereford-Friesian heifers, 440kg, earning $1280, $2.90/kg. Buyers were selective throughout the yearling section as many are still waiting for a spring pasture flourish. Yearling Wagyu-cross steers, 270kg, fetched $795, $2.94/kg.
