A large yarding of cattle was penned at Rongotea last Wednesday with 2-year steers and spring-born weaners featuring, New Zealand Livestock agent Darryl Harwood reported.

Two-year Friesian steers, 435kg, fetched $2.53/kg, with Belted Galloway-cross, 425kg, at $2.78/kg.

Yearlings had more weight this sale. Hereford-Friesian steers, 288-295kg, returned $2.71-$3.12/kg, and Angus-cross, 314kg, at $2.74/kg. Hereford-Friesian bulls, 242-343kg, managed $2.85-$2.97/kg. Speckle Park-cross heifers, 315kg, sold well at $3.03/kg, and dairy-bred lines, 208-285kg, ranged from $1.57-$1.93/kg.

Weaner Hereford-Friesian steers, 145kg, earned $510-$640, while their sisters, 140-148kg, returned $2.13-$2.38/kg.  Friesian bulls, 102-205kg, fetched $400-$625.

Hereford-Friesian bull calves traded at $80-$250, with Friesian earning $40-$90. Hereford-cross heifers managed $60-$120.
