A smaller bench of buyers attended the Temuka sale last Monday. Hereford-cross steers, 520-680kg, held at $3.10-$3.16/kg, with 493-503kg $3.05-$3.06/kg. Small pens of traditional steers made a premium with Hereford, 480-580kg, at $3.15-$3.20/kg while top Angus made $3.22/kg. Many heifers outperformed the steers as a pen of Charolais, 612kg, sold for $3.26/kg and Angus, 530-668kg, rose 9c/kg to $3.13-$3.23/kg.
Just shy of 6000 head was penned in the sheep section. Prime hoggets attracted plenty of spirited bidding and the top 315 made $220-$235. A third were very heavy at $201-$219, while heavy lines were $180-$199. Fine-wool types contributed to most of the store section, where a special entry of 300 Perendale ewe hoggets sold for $189. The best Merino made $147, with most other pens $131-$142.
