Perendale fetches $15k at Gore sale

A Texel ram sold for $20,000 and a Perendale for $15,500, setting the South Island ram selling season alight earlier this month.

The Texel was sold by Peter and Marion Black’s Blackdale Stud from Riverton in Southland at the Gore A&P Association’s recent sale and was bought by Garth and Chris Shaw, Wharetoa Genetics from Clydevale, South Otago.

At the same event, a Perendale ram bred by Snowden Station in the Rakaia Gorge in Canterbury sold for $15,500, bought by John Henricksen from Dannevirke.

The Snowden Station offering, bred by Annabel Tripp and her partner Roy Veronese, had two further high-priced sales; one ram at $12,500 and another at $9000.

Two Perendale rams sold by Mt Guardian in North Canterbury made $10,500 and $4200.

The Armidale Merino stud in Maniototo had a strong on-farm sale earlier this month.

The Paterson family had a complete clearance of 34 Merino and Poll Merino rams (micron range 17-20) for an average of $2600 and a top price of $5200. They sold 41 of the 49 half-bred rams (20.5-24.5 micron) for an average of $1426, with a top price of $5000, and 22 of 25 quarter-bred rams (19 to 23 micron) for an average of $1496 and a top of $5200.
