Alliance has confirmed sheep meat processing will end at Mataura. No other viable alternatives to that decision emerged during a four-week consultation process, chief executive Grant Cuff said.
Some workers had asked if certain alternatives had been considered, and they all had been , he said. He wouldn’t say what these were.
The 260 sheepmeat workers have been offered positions at Lorneville, with work expected to be available before Christmas.
About 65 non-processing staff face redundancy due to the change at Mataura.
Company and WINZ staff were at the plant helping affected workers sort out their options, Cuff said.
Mataura will be a dedicated beef processing plant from now on.
