The new marshalling floor at Silver Fern Farms’ Pacific plant was operative this week.

A new $17 million marshalling floor began operating this week at Silver Fern Farms’ Pacific plant in the Hawke’s Bay.

The automated facility allows the identifying and managing of individual premium carcases, so high-value cuts can be processed.

The previous grading system meant it was difficult to single out premium carcases.

SFF operations manager Mark Leslie says the facility includes cutting and packaging capacity so high-value carcases can be processed and packaged for customers.

Leslie says extra staff will be employed to run the facility, but it will also mean an extended season for existing staff because more high-quality carcases can be identified and processed.
