Steep lift in dairy index

The dairy price index of the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations shot up to 258.8 points in the month of April.  The 15% lift in the index was driven by the steep decline in New Zealand’s milk production at that time.  The price leap was also seen as a reflection of the lack of commercial stocks to cater for such an unexpected reduction in availability.
