Synlait Milk’s Dunsandel factory will be audited next week as part of its manufacturing licence application to supply product ultimately bound for China.

The milk processor said the Ministry for Primary Industries will audit the factory on behalf of China’s Statement Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR) as part of its registration process. This follows a review of Synlait’s technical dossiers.

Synlait has been seeking a renewal of its licence to produce A2 Milk’s Chinese-labelled infant formula and has an eye on further licences.

Re-registration is needed under China’s new food safety legislation, with onsite verification the last step before seeking final approval from SAMR.

“We’re pleased to have certainty around the audit process timing, as is our strategic customer and shareholder, the A2 Milk Company,” Synlait chief executive Grant Watson said.

Separately, A2 Milk said it will provide a further update when it releases its first-half result on February 20.
