Nurturing, assisting an encouraging current and future sheep and beef farmers is the focus of Beef + Lamb New Zealand’s Generation Next programme.

The programme, Developing Capability and Building Potential for Future Industry Leaders, is seeking applications for the 2024 Generation Next intake.

If upskilling is on the “to do” list this new year, consider applying for the 2024 intake now, BLNZ’s national programme manager, Olivia Weatherburn, said.

This nationwide, free personal development programme is designed to equip future industry farmers and leaders with the skills essential for advancing their farming career.

If you are actively engaged in sheep and beef or drystock farming, aged between 18 and 45, and eager to learn and enhance profitability, this programme is for you.

“Over three carefully crafted workshops, you’ll delve into the essentials of understanding your farm business from financial basics to effective management strategies.

“You’ll also learn decision making strategies to help ensure you navigate the challenges of farming with confidence.

“On top of growing crucial business skills to boost your farming career, you’ll also connect with a network of farmers in your area and become part of the Generation Next alumni, Weatherburn said.

Given the programme’s growing popularity, there are limited spots available with just 20 in each of the six locations across the country.

“If you’re considering applying, don’t hesitate.”

2022 BLNZ Generation Next alumnus Lachie McKenzie hailed the programme as a “must do”.

“If you’re thinking of giving it a go, do! Even if you believe you have a sound future business model or succession sorted, there will always be something of value to take away in programmes like Generation Next,”  McKenzie said.

Applications close February 16 2024.
