“(Per head) performance is especially important on a small place like this.”
“Brian is like a free farm adviser and I’m lucky to have him.”
The farm, plus up to two days a week of casual work on a neighbouring farm, keep Greg busy, but change is on the horizon. His wife, Alisha, is expecting their first baby in December, so soon they will be looking for a larger property.
“This is a good one-man unit but it’s not big enough to support a family.”
They want to stay local but with the high price of the lower lying land will probably head for the hills.
Although Greg’s sights are set on something bigger and better, he’s pleased with the development and results on the modest farm.
“I never thought we’d be able to stock this place with 2000 ewes so it’s been a real achievement.
“We’ve spent a lot on fencing, fertiliser and shelter tree lanes so it’s good to start seeing the results.”
